Audiobook

This award-winning biography (Eric Hoffer and Benjamin Franklin awards) tells the story of Rama, Dr. Frederick P. Lenz (1950–1998), an enlightened spiritual teacher who developed a unique form of American Buddhism. Rama taught tens of thousands, transforming lives with humor, compassion, and radiant energy.

From childhood, signs of his unusual path appeared—at age three, he entered samadhi in his mother’s garden. As a teen, he traveled to Nepal with a homemade snowboard, where an elderly monk foretold his return to enlightenment and mission to guide millions. Back in the US, Rama earned a PhD, began teaching, and introduced fresh ways to guide skeptical Westerners toward higher, happier states of mind.

Audiences recalled him filling halls with golden light and joy, healing from afar, and embodying enlightenment itself. His students described him as compassionate, controversial, wise, and irreverent. Drawing from over 100 interviews, the book reveals how Rama didn’t just speak of enlightenment—he lived it, and continues to inspire.
